Installation And Maintenance Electrician Apprenticeship

What is this Standard?

This is a Level 3 Apprenticeship that is an excellent starting place to learn about the skills and knowledge required to operate as an electricican.

Electricians work across the industrial, commercial, and residential sectors, installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment. Their work includes everything from initial installation and testing to commissioning and maintenance of low-voltage systems (up to 1000V AC or 1500V DC), as well as automated and renewable technologies.

Once qualified, electricians can choose to work for employers or become self-employed contractors, supporting the design, installation, and maintenance of systems that power homes, businesses, and industry.

If you are aged 16-18 and don’t have Maths and/or English qualifications or Functional Skills equivalent qualification, you will be expected to complete L1 and/or L2. If you are aged 19+, your employer will decide if they require you to complete functional skills.

Installation and Maintenance Electrician Assessment

Whilst on programme, you will gain competence, build a portfolio of evidence and complete functional skills if you need to (your tutor will advise). Once the portfolio is completed, you will enter the gateway to completion stage, which is a revision period in preparation for the apprenticeship assessment.
Prior to completing the Apprenticeship Assessment, you must:

• Confirm you are ready to take the Apprenticeship Assessment.
• Have achieved English and mathematics qualifications in line with the apprenticeship. funding rules.
• Have passed the Electrotechnical Apprenticeship Qualification.

In addition to the above, your employer must be content that you are occupationally competent.
Apprenticeship Assessment

There are three assessment elements for this apprenticeship:
1. Online Knowledge Assessment.
2. Observation of practical competence in a controlled environment. As part of an installation and maintenance electrician’s role, they will be expected to carry out an installation to a specification and test and inspect using the appropriate British Standards and associated guidance notes, with an awareness of net zero and green technologies.
3. Behaviours will be validated by employers.
