This programme combines sound understanding with technical skills, building on the equine experience and knowledge already gained in industry. The objectives of the course are to further develop the necessary skills and related background knowledge to work at a technical/managerial level in the equine industry.
You must be employed in a supervisory or managerial position to undertake this course i.e. head groom or yard manager. If you are not working directly in a supervisory role but wish to undertake this qualification to enhance your prospects of progressing into such a position, please contact us and speak to a member of our work-based learning team to discuss your suitability for the programme.
With this qualification you will achieve:
Level 3 BTEC Diploma in work-based Horse Care
Level 3 BTEC Certificate in the principles of Horse Care
Functional Skills Level 2 in maths and English
This qualification can be tailored to your individual needs. The apprenticeship programme is ideal for those who are working in the equine industry in a supervisory position, looking to build on existing knowledge and skills to take their career to the next level. During the apprenticeship, you will confirm your abilities to plan and coordinate the care of horses, and lead teams to achieve tasks and objectives whilst maintaining a safe working environment.

Harness Horse Driver
Assistant Harness Horse Trainer
Harness Horse Groom – agriculture
How long is the course?
Minimum of one year.
All assessments and training are delivered entirely in the workplace supported by regular visits to the yard/stable from an assessor.
