To support our comprehensive equine programme, we have a dedicated team of expert coaches with over 75 years of combined experience. Our robust coaching approach ensures consistency and quality for every apprentice, supported by regular face-to-face sessions. We know employers and apprentices are busy, so each visit is designed to make a real impact—focused on progress, minimising unnecessary paperwork, and providing responsive support by phone or email whenever needed.

We operate under a clear apprenticeship delivery policy, regularly reviewing our approach to ensure each apprentice receives the very best experience. When learners reach their final assessment (EPA), our coaches ensure they are fully prepared, confident, and equipped with the skills required for success. There are no surprises on EPA day—only readiness.

Equine Groom Apprentice

Apprentices will be predominantly involved with the care, exercise and welfare of horses and ponies. Although this role is titled “equine groom” it may include riding if that is your chosen pathway. Duties may include maintaining the animals’ stables and riding equipment.

This is a Level 2 role and for many passionate horse lovers it is the perfect entry level position.

Senior Equine Groom Apprenticeship

This apprenticeship takes the learnings and experience of the Equine L2 Apprenticeship to the next level. Level 3 Apprentices will be working in a position to take on responsibility and mentorship. Although traditional horsemanship is based on fundamental principles this role encourages the use of technology and innovation that is available today.

Each Senior Apprenticeship may take a specific pathway and these are as follows:

Riding – Predominately involves the care and training of horses for riding, including saddle preparation, skills development for different types of equine use and maintaining or improving fitness levels for all horses.
Non-Riding – Focus is on the care of horses in non-riding settings, such as livery yards or riding schools, this may involve business development (marketing, project management of events and buy/selling horses). There will be an element of brand growth which includes customer satisfaction and enticing repeat business.
Racing – This may be yard or exercise-based but will require skill development specific to racing. For exercise-based grooms there will be a requirement to develop specific exercise regimes, breaking and training, and implementing individual racehorse training programs. For those undertaking the yard pathway there will be a daily care, including feeding, grooming, and preparing horses for races, and may involve caring for a yard of racehorses.

Much of this role is around coordinating the day-to-day care of the horses in the workplace. Additional responsibilities will include organising and monitoring the quality of work and ordering and maintaining supplies.

A Level 3 Senior Apprenticeship role often provides opportunities to work at the top equine employers in the country and opens doors to other related equine opportunities.
